Dr Maria Shapoval

Naturopathic Doctor

Naturopathic treatments offer safe, flexible and effective options for a wide range of conditions.

When we start our work together, we laser in on where you are coming from and identify the factors or variables that make you feel better or worse. I get to know you as a person – because you are not your condition. That means discovering what your favorite foods are, whether you enjoy exercise, and what you like to do for fun. This will allow me to identify naturopathic treatment options that are individualized to your needs and preferences.

During the Coronavirus Outbreak all visits will be conducted through an online platform (telemedicine). An online appointment may be booked if you are located in any of the following provinces: Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, Labrador, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Yukon and North West Territories

Initial Visit:

Your initial visit is one hour long ($175) and includes a conversation around your current and past health concerns. We will also explore your goals, family and social history, medications, and supplements. The first visit may also include a physical exam and discussion of possible lab assessments. These can be done either with your family doctor or on-site. At the end of the visit, we will map out a naturopathic treatment approach and decide on realistic timelines. These will depend on the goals and current opportunities (such as time to dedicate to a new diet or exercise routine, versus a temporary supplement or herbal preparation).

Follow Up Visit:

The follow up visit ($90) is typically forty minutes and scheduled within the next 2 to 4 weeks. During this time we will follow up on initial treatments and lifestyle changes, as well as delve deeper into factors contributing to the current health state and possible causes. Lab assessment or analysis may be completed at this time.

I look forward to getting to know you!

Below is a short list of some of the naturopathic treatments I may recommend.

Your best first step is scheduling a complimentary visit to see if we are a fit.

Naturopathic acupuncture

Acupuncture involves the insertion of thin needles into points on the body to stimulate the “Qi” as per Eastern Medicine. The average session is about 30 to 40 minutes and is repeated between 6 and 12 times through 6 to 12 weeks. The points are selected based on the individualized presentation of the patient. This also directs the duration and frequency of these sessions and their number. Acute conditions typically see an improvement in 3 sessions, while chronic conditions can take longer.

Naturopathic tea

Herbal Medicine includes teas, tinctures (alcohol based extractions), and dried supplements. The tinctures and teas are compounded on site and offer a wonderful opportunity for individualization. The herbs are selected based on patient’s concerns and thus are always custom designed.

Naturopathic foods

Dietary recommendations are key to healthy lifestyle. The diet is selected based on patient condition, religious beliefs and personal preferences, the latest research and individual response. I do not support any one diet as being the solution for everyone and everything. Many diets are beneficial for different conditions at different stages. When diet is insufficient to meet the demands of the condition, nutritional supplements are recommended.

Lifestyle counseling involves exploring various aspects of healthy lifestyle, including mind-body connection, light exposure, diet, exercise, among other factors. Together, we jointly create strategies to change these habits where this is necessary to help optimize your overall health and wellness.

Naturopathic labs

Laboratory Testing at the Integrated Healthcare Centre is partnered with LifeLabs and offers a full range of lab tests that are available to naturopathic doctors. These include food allergy testing, cholesterol panel, environmental toxin assessment, hormone testing and many others.
