ABOUT DR. MARIA SHAPOVAL, ND AND EDUCATOR
Supporting Patients with Neurological Conditions
My commitment to neurological care began long before my formal training in naturopathic medicine. When my grandmother was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, I saw firsthand how overwhelming and fragmented care can feel for patients and families. Her symptoms were often treated in isolation, and we were repeatedly referred from one specialist to another without a clear, cohesive plan that addressed her overall quality of life.
That experience shaped how I practice today
Over 10 years of education and residency, I focused on Parkinson’s research, including a preceptorship with a neurologist. I completed my undergraduate studies at the University of Toronto and my naturopathic training at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM), where I also serve as faculty. This combination of research, clinical experience, and formal training informs how I guide patients today.
Since becoming a licensed Naturopathic Doctor in 2011, I’ve been helping people with neurological disorders live fuller lives.
Naturopathic medicine gives my patients options
Naturopathic medicine treats the whole person, which means I can help with symptoms that don’t neatly fit a single diagnosis.
Often, the challenge isn’t whether there’s something to try, but what to try first, and in what order, guided by evidence, safety, and your personal goals.
While there is currently no cure for neurological disorders, integrative and natural therapies may help slow progression, manage symptoms, and improve your quality of life.
With a personalized plan, you can feel more informed, supported, and confident in managing your day-to-day health.
